About our Family
The Churches of Christ are autonomous, meaning you might find something a little different at each one you attend. Individual congregations are subject not to a board of directors or other governing body; only the Word of God, which we try to uphold to the best of our ability. Here are some of the tenets of our faith here at YLCoC.
We believe:
- God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are separate entities that form one eternal God.
- The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It sets the standard for how we live our lives and how we worship God.
- Sin has separated mankind from God. The only way to be reconciled to God is through his Son Jesus.
- Salvation is by grace only; it cannot be earned, it is the free gift of God.
- The only way to God is through Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, who gave up His throne in heaven to live as a man on earth and to be crucified on a cross as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
- Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and it is because of His resurrection that Christians can have the confident expectation of eternal life in heaven with Him.
- Baptism by immersion is commanded by Scripture. It signifies our death to sin and resurrection to a new life in Christ.
- Repentance (turning away) from sin is commanded by Scripture and, like baptism, is a vital part of becoming a Christian.
- Salvation is a process; one can fall from God’s grace if one does not continue to grow in the image of Christ and bear fruit in His name.
- God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- The two greatest commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. We strive to keep these commandments as we grow in faith and spiritual maturity, and as we minister to others.
- Our Mission on earth is to share the love of Christ with the world and to win as many souls for Him as possible.
